Think Different, Farm Better : A Timac AGRO Tech Direct Guide

Farmers work hard, so it only makes sense their plants should as well. Beyond your traditional N-P-K-S components, a growing number of Canadian farmers are eager to engage in the necessary conversation around the topics of soil health and nutrient use efficiency. For this reason, Timac AGRO Canada is focussed on helping farmers increase their productivity in pursuit of sustainable and more profitable agriculture.

Generations of Success

In operation since 1959, Timac is a family-owned company that has grown from the shores of Saint-Malo, France, to a team of 2,600 Agronomic Technical Consultants (ATCs) who work with more than 20,000 farmers on a daily basis in 40 countries.

Timac is a fully integrated company from its unique research centre in Saint-Malo to its 96 production units where it manufactures five million tonnes of fertilizer per year, each adapted to different crops, soil profiles and agronomic challenges.

In its first year of operation in Canada, Timac has had 40 ATCs operating from coast to coast. The company works with countless progressive farmers and retailers all eager to achieve more on their existing landbase. With six-plus decades of success, the company looks to its past of helping farmers achieve results to direct its future: sustainable agriculture, producing more food on the same or less land in the most environmentally conscious way possible.

21st Century Solutions for Age-Old Problems

Proximity, social capital, on-farm return on investment and innovation are the four pillars around which Timac started its activities in 2019. Strongly believing that there is no such thing as a “one size fits all solution,” Timac teams first and foremost seek to understand a farmer’s operations, challenges and profitability targets before discussing product. One thing is for sure, with more than 120 scientific partnerships around the world, some of which are recently developed with Canada’s leading agricultural research universities, TIMAC takes no shortcuts regarding science and innovation.

The science behind Timac technologies was recognized in 2019 at the Ag in Motion exhibition, where its TOP-PHOS technology was first showcased in Canada. This new raw material brings a low-salt and concrete solution to phosphorus blockage/retrogradation both in acidic and calcareous soils and has since gained the interest of several ag-growers and retailers.

Timac also has a unique positioning in terms of nitrogen fertilization and seeks to improve the efficiency of the five million metric tonnes of N applied in Canada year on year. With its APEX fertilizer, Timac is the only fertilizer manufacturer in the country to offer both ammoniacal and ureic sources of nitrogen in the same granule.

With Excelis Maxx, a urea/UAN additive, the objective is to fight the negative impact of volatilization, leaching and denitrification while at the same time improve microbial activity in the soil.

Finally, Timac enjoys a worldwide market leader position when it comes to biostimulants technologies and looks forward to seeing the impact of its technologies on crop establishment and support in fighting abiotic stress on Canadian farms.

Results that Speak for Themselves

Farmers matter over acres: The company’s primary objective is to create long-lasting partnerships with farmers to help them achieve their goals on their farm no matter the size or the crop type. Timac’s pledge is to be there alongside farmers and retailers before, during and after the growing season.

In Line with 4R, Value-Added Industries

With a philosophy aligned with 4R Nutrient Stewardship (Right Source at the Right Place at the Right Time at the Right Rate), TIMAC helps farmers achieve sustainability goals such as carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas reductions to even greater degrees. Through products such as Excelis Maxx, farmers can lessen nitrogen volatilization and leaching. Similarly, TOP-PHOS has been verified by third-party researchers to reduce leaching in groundwater.

With a more sustainably produced crop, farmers have potential value-added opportunities with food processors, demonstrating to them that their crops have enhanced nutrient profiles and characteristics.

Canadian Expansion

Timac’s rapid expansion across Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan has been made possible by numerous partnerships built within the country’s agricultural communities (ATCs, farmers, retailers and universities) all of them focussed on the objective of bridging together performant and sustainable agriculture.
